Pastor

Dr. Chris Powell

Chris became our pastor in 2013.  He has served as a pastor for the last 16 years and as a minister of music and youth for 6 years prior to becoming a pastor.  He is a graduate of Hardin-Simmons University with a degree in Social Work, and also earned a Master of Divinity from Logsdon Seminary at Hardin-Simmons University. He completed a Doctor of Ministry degree at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 2011. His field of study was the Mission and Evangelism track with focus upon the Missional Church.

Chris has been married to Krista for 17 years.  He descirbes her as ,"the love of my life, my best friend, and partner in ministry."  She has a heart for God, people, and the church.  They have three children, Noah, Chloe, and Bryan.. Noah is an energetic 7th grader. He loves sports and music.  Chloe is a 4th grade princess.  She loves Barbie, American Girls, picking on her brother, and riding her bike.. Bryan is 5 years old and wants to do anything his brother does! Chris loves to spend time with his family and enjoys being outdoors. A favorite family past time is camping.  Big Bend has caught the families heart!  Chris enjoys playing golf, or at least playing at golf, reading, and music.  He is the world's Biggest Superman fan.

Chris's favorite scripture verse is Habakkuk 1.5, “Look…and watch—and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.” He believes that God is inviting the church to participate with him in his mission, and the mission of God is beyond our imagination.  When we decide to join him in that mission we will be utterly amazed. Chris loves serving as a pastor because God’s plans are always beyond anything we can comprehend.  He has a passion for people, missions, and preaching.

Youth Pastor

Tandy Adams

Tandy joined the staff at FBC in September 2016. She attended Howard Payne University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She has worked in various churches throughout TX for the last 20 years as a youth pastor and worship leader. Tandy has been married for 24 years to Brian Adams who is the head volleyball and tennis coach and English teacher at Alpine High School. She and Brian have 2 children. Their daughter,  Taylor, is a sophomore at Sul Ross State University Alpine. Taylor is an English Education major and involved with Baptist Student Ministries at SRSU.  Taylor loves debating (anything really)  and is a very outspoken, strong woman, Their son, Jonah, is 16 and a sophomore at Alpine High School. Jonah is on the drum line, in One Act Play, Cross Country and Track.  Jonah is a runner and will talk about conspiracy theories and global warming until you just give up and agree wth him.

Tandy loves teenagers and college students and their passion, creativity, and energy. Watching teenagers fall in love with and passionately pursue Jesus makes all the late nights, the pizza parties, and the rowdy middle school boys worth it. She loves worship and leading others as they declair together in song the glory and truth of who God is.  Tandy believes the local church is the hope of the world and the Bride of Christ.  Her desire is for all generations within the Body to work together to further the Kingdom, to be light in a dark world and to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the community. She is passionate about her World Champion Chicago Cubs (and baseball in general), her Breedlove guitar, tattoos and coffee.  Brian and Tandy have made Alpine home and never plan on leaving.

"Now all Glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think or imagine." Eph 3:20

Amy Garcia

Amy and her family moved to Alpine from San Angelo in May of 2017.  She has hit the ground running here in Alpine and is eager to be a servant to those who are in need. Amy saw the banner on the church wall for VBS and just knew that she and her family could begin meeting people, if they just showed up and volunteered.  She is spunky and full of life & she doesn’t know how to just sit back and relax…yet.  Amy had no idea what God would have her do once she and her family moved to Alpine.  For the last 5 years she was an office administrator at a Real Estate company.  God is a faithful loving God and He showed up big this summer.  After much prayer and consideration, she joined the staff in August of 2017 as the Children’s Coordinator.  Amy is extremely excited and has BIG ideas for the children of the Alpine community and she cannot wait to see what God will do.  She invites you to keep a look out on the church calendar for upcoming events for the fall and spring.

Amy is married to Adrian Garcia and they have 3 incredible children Kristin (16), Matthew (14), and Levi (8).  They have been married for 17 years, Amy loves, adores, and admires her husband for his work ethic, love for his children and the way he provides for each of them selflessly.  Kristin will be a Junior at AHS, she likes to take pictures, read books, loves to eat & she loves good conversation!!  Matthew will be a Freshman at AHS, he likes basketball, video games, playing games outdoors, running with his dog Chikah and is the family comedian.  Levi will be a 3rd grader at AES, he likes video games, running & playing outside, basketball, football, and he adores his German Shepherd Max.  Together they love watching movies, cooking, playing games, hiking, telling jokes and just being together.

Habakkuk 3:17-19

Though the fig tree does not bud and there is no fruit on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will triumph in Yahweh; I will rejoice in the God of my salvation! Yahweh my Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like those of a deer and enables me to walk on mountain heights!

Ephesians 3:20-21

Now to Him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us— to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
